Scope of Symposium
Graphene, graphene oxide, and other form of graphene derivatives, present a rich playground for the chemist to synthesize new materials with novel properties. The biggest immediate market for graphene and its derivatives lies in tailored-made structural composites, polymer blends and electrodes for energy applications. Therefore, this is a long-awaited dedicated chemistry conference focusing on the materials chemistry of graphene. Moving beyond the chemical synthesis of graphene, the symposium also looks at the emerging applications of graphene in chemical synthesis, supramocular assembly, polymer hybrids, chemical extraction, bioanalysis and toxicity. The big vision is underscored by the energy and health-related applications of graphene and its derivatives. A unique aspect of this conference is that there will be a special session on the entrepreneurial aspect of graphene business and there will be special feature talks by entrepreneurs in the graphene business. This symposium wishes to distinguish itself from physics conferences on the theory or device applications of graphene, although special topics in this symposium will feature the spectroscopic characterization of graphene (surface chemistry), bioelectronic applications of graphene devices in biosensing and the electrochemical gating of graphene in liquids.
