Scope of Symposium
Knowledge in the synthetic manipulation of materials by chemical means is largely untapped in biomedical research. This symposium would provide the materials community with information on the state-of-the-art in the development and application of materials in biomedicine, to facilitate their interest and participation. For example, materials science and chemistry provides the foundation for the conjugation of ligands to influence cellular behaviour, while materials engineering affords substrates of defined mechanical properties for cell culture and stem cell differentiation. The present symposium would cover research in the area of biomaterials for tissue engineering, including biomolecular engineering, natural/synthetic extracellular matrices, scaffolds for tissue engineering, presentation of biosignals, biomaterials for cell culture, artificial organs and implants.
