Scope of Symposium

The advent of metamaterials presents new opportunities in both fundamental research and a wide range of new applications. This symposium is to bring together the physics, engineering, chemistry and materials science communities to share and discuss recent development in this multi-discipline field. It will cover general theory, modeling, fabrication, characterization, fabrication and application of artificial complex electromagnetic materials. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
• Physics of complex electromagnetic materials
• Theory, modeling, simulation and characterization
• Nano-patterning and fabrication techniques
• Materials deposition/synthesis
• Plasmonic metamaterials
• Photonic crystals and applications
• Chiral and bianisotropic materials
• Optical metamaterials
• Metamaterials in THz and MMW
• Transformation optics
• Active, tunable and non-linear metamaterials
• New design and structures for isotropic, broadband response
• Metamaterials with extreme parameters
• Sub-wavelength optics
• Plasmonic waveguide and circuit
• Quantum optics and plasmonics
• Extraordinary transmission
• Super-resolution imaging and sub-wavelength focusing
• Novel optical and photonic devices
• Metamaterials application in bio, sensing, electronic, antenna, optical communication, data storage, energy harvesting, cloaking, etc.

Peer-reviewed papers presented in this symposium will be published in a special issue in the Applied Physics A.
Please submit the manuscript to Ms Chew Ah Bian through email: chewab@imre.a-star.edu.sg. The deadline for manuscript submission is 1 July 2011.
