Overview

The scope of the symposium covers topics related to the inter-disciplinary areas of nano-biotechnology. Biological systems are without doubt the most successful examples of integrated functional nanosystems. Biological functionality can be integrated into artificial micro-systems and devices, thereby endowing them with life-like qualities such as the ability to sense and respond to their environments. A successful integration of biological functionality with devices requires control of the nano-bio interface. Much of the recent developments in medical electronics, cancer treatment, biosensing, and synthesis of novel drug delivery systems also require a molecular level understanding of the nano-bio interface for more effective design and control. This symposium is intended for the dissemination of the recent development in these areas. Topics that will be covered in the symposium include the integration of nanoscale materials into MEMs, optical, electronic, and fluidic platforms for biological sensing. The surface chemistry involved in the functionalization of surfaces and matrices for the immobilization and application of biological materials will also be covered.

Topics

  • Bioelectronics on a semiconductor platform
  • Nanotechnology for Bioanalysis and Biomedical applications
  • Immobilization and applications of functional proteins, nucleic acids and cells on solid interfaces
  • Nanoprobe manipulation and characterization of biomolecules and cells
  • Nanofluidics for bioanalysis
  • MEMS based on bio-nano interface
